Referral Program FAQs
Our referral program is designed to reward legal professionals for referring new clients to our law firm. We provide incentives based on LSO requirements:
- The referral fee must be fair and reasonable and not increase the total amount of the fee payable by the client
- Referral fees must be capped based on a percentage of the legal fee:
- 15% for the first $50,000 of legal fees, and
- 5% of all legal fees thereafter to an absolute cap of $25,000
- Referral fees cannot be paid to licensees whose licenses were suspended at the time of referral or because the licensee had a conflict of interest
- Up-front referral fees are prohibited
- Licensees who provide legal services through Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), such as charities or not-for-profit corporations may not pay or receive referral fees

The referral program is open to legal professionals who might know someone who needs legal services.
You can submit a referral by filling out the referral form on our website. Provide the necessary details about the person or business you are referring, and our team will handle the rest.
You'll need to provide the name, contact information, and a brief description of the legal needs of the person or business you are referring. Additional context, such as how you know them, can also be helpful.
Our referral program covers civil, corporate, estate, and real estate litigation cases. If you're unsure whether a case qualifies, feel free to contact us for clarification.
Once we contact your referral and they decide to use our services, we will notify you. You can also track the status of your referral by reaching us at: referral@melaw.ca.
For legal professionals, we offer monetary payments as rewards.
Legal professionals will receive their monetary rewards once the referred individual or business has signed a contract and we have confirmed them as a client. Other professionals will be automatically added to our referral base and notified about upcoming events and benefits.
There is no limit to the number of referrals you can make. The more clients you refer, the more rewards you can earn.
Unfortunately, self-referrals are not eligible for rewards. The program is designed to encourage the referral of new clients who have not previously used our services.
If your referral does not become a client, you will not receive a reward. However, we encourage you to continue referring others who might benefit from our services.
Once you submit a referral, you will receive a confirmation email with a tracking link. You can use this link to check the status of your referral and see any rewards earned.
